White Water Falls is on the Whitewater River in the Jocassee Gorge area.

There is a wheelchair accessible paved walkway to the upper overlook where you can get an excellent view of the falls.

Then you can take a steep walk to the bottom on wooden steps and switchbacks.

As now, in the 1800s, tourism was an important part of the economy in North and South Carolina. In 1851 the White Water Falls Turnpike Company was commissioned by the South Carolina General Assembly to construct a road from the Jocassee Valley to the North Carolina line.
